So yes, a technique that keeps the victim conscious for longer is more effective than one where he/she passes out with the same level of stress and pain.

@Onyerneez Youv'e said the perch position is used in real life torture because it immobilises in an uncomfortable way and persents the feet, ass and cunt (dick and balls for a guy) conveniently for torture.

Another advantage is that keeping the head lower than the body and legs boosts the blood flow to the brain. That makes it less likely the victim will faint from the pain and fear. In other words, the torturer can work them longer and harder without them passing out.
