"Compelling" is a good word. It usually leads to the most interesting conversations, mostly in my head but a few times with others who didn't dismiss it out of hand.

@snahfu, You have good taste. Gaspar Noe is an astonishingly talented and adept story teller.

I so hear you. Good taste and an affinity for porn seem to be the rarest of combinations. Which, I suppose, is why most porn is so very dreadful. Happy you're pleased.

"The Valley Of The Dolls" is a very different kind of film, altogether, but sure, I'll look for it and post. It's on of my faves.

More Transgressive Cinema from the subversive Richard Kern. A good place to start if you're new to his work.

It actually *is* a safe sex/condom short by Noe, commissioned by the French government in 1998, Cotton. To each his own.

Seminal Rain. "The Decline of Western Civilization," Penelope Spheeris' brilliant 1980 L.A. punk documentary featuring performances, appearances and interviews with Black Flag, Germs, X, Alice Bag Band, Circle Jerks, Catholic Discipline, Fear, Darby Crash, Exene, John Doe, Greg Ginn, Greg Hetson, Keith Morris, Roger Rogerson and Lee Ving. Oh, hell yes.

Richard Kern's 1986 Cinema Of Transgression masterpiece starring no-wave queen, Lydia Lunch, Marty Nation and Lung Leg. Dark, gritty, violent, nasty, sleazy Super 8 short (24 minutes) that's in the collection of every interesting person I know. Soundtrack by Lydia Lunch, JG Thirlwell (Foetus) and Norman Westberg. Smokin' hot.

Calling social conventions and morality into question, Richard Kern's 1985 camp gore-fest classic starring Lung Leg and Karen Finley should be mandatory family holiday viewing. Transgressive and hilarious at once.

Richard Kern's 1992 horrific and detached documentation of Kembra Pfahler's personal reclamation of her body and eradication of the systemic body shame brought down on her by loved ones and the general public alike in response to The Voluptuous Horror Of Karen Black. For the simpletons: Lisa Resurrection sews Kembra's vagina shut. Stark, bleak, unforgettable.

Rain porn = pretty, nasty men and boys + high art (in this case, film, music and fashion). Italian director, Stefano Lorenzi's magnificent 15-minute film of Roberto Cavali's exquisitely detailed and dark Autumn/Winter 2012 menswear collection (actually designed by Cavali's massively talented daughter, Daniele) featuring an extraordinarily sexy, mysterious and slightly dangerous performance by Son Of Dave (nom de blues of Benjamin Darvill of Crash Test Dummies). But, oh baby, really? Man heaven.

Tarik Saleh's 7-minute masterpiece is an entire film disguised as a music video for Lykke Li's "Sadness Is A Blessing." Gorgeous Spector sound; Lykke Li is beautiful; lighting, costumes, choreography and extras are pitch-perfect; and, when the hell did Stellan Skarsgard start to happen? Either way, helllllooooo, Daddy. Orgasmically stunning.

Dean Stockwell's portrayal of sleazy pimp/dealer, Ben (one suave motherfucker) stole this classic David Lynch neo noir, "Blue Velvet" out from under even the deliciously over the top Dennis Hopper (Frank). Ben lip-synching Roy Orbison's beauty, "In Dreams" on Frank's demand. Lucky, lucky us.

Part 3 of UNKLE's 2010 short film trilogy, "Saviours And Angels" featuring their collaboration with Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees), "Another Night Out." Sensual, dark and innocent at once- beauty overdrive.

Eli Wallach and Carroll Baker in one of the most erotic seduction scenes ever set to film from Elia Kazan's steamy 1956 interpretation of Tennessee Williams' "Baby Doll," a highly charged tale of vengeance, power, control and repressed sexuality that's been a part of this Southern girl's pillow book since childhood. Retro raunch for the imaginative.

Icon of the Transgression Cinema movement, Richard Kern's black gem starring the ever-fuckable Nick Zedd as both unnervingly blank boyfriend and suicidal, subservient girlfriend. Necro sleaze set to a perfect soundtrack by The Dream Syndicate. Don't care how wrong and nasty it is; I love Richard Kern's fucked up soul. "Thrust In Me" (1985)

"Done Dun" by Lydia Lunch with The Birthday Party's Nick Cave and Mick Harvey (b-side of "The Crumb" 12" - 1988). The beautifully appropriate film stock is from "An Unseen Enemy" (1912) starring Lillian Gish. Sublime and sensual darkness from the no-wave queen of my heart.

The shotgun clip from Lydia Lunch's 1985 no-wave erotic masterpiece, "The Right Side Of My Brain." That's director Richard Kern in this clip looking perfectly sleazy and hot in the way that only Kern can film. Thank you, Lydia.

This one's for my secret friend who may hold the kep to the map of my desire. Since The Birthday Party, I've coveted the deliciously dark Nick Cave in the most unseemly ways. After a week of sex, death, work and sleeplessness, some time with a sweet, young, tireless, well-dressed boy or four is all a girl needs. Slow-grind Britpop with a serrated edge from my favorite mid-80s nasty boys. The Godfathers, "Birth, School, Work, Death," from the album of the same name (1988).

Hello, Daddy. American G.I., Lee Hobson Hollis has fronted the outstanding, melodic German hardcore band, Spembirds for nearly 30 years, getting better with each. Sadly, this is the last and only tour I caught live, but oh, baby, the good fortune listening to their album, "Something To Prove" (1987) has rained down on my lucky, lucky husbands. Spermbirds, "You're Not A Punk," live in Leeds, 1992.

Iggy Pop from the "Soft Machine" album, 2007).
