@Laterthanthat honestly my understanding of how China is likely to fit into this is limited. My opinion is they are watching closely to how the world reacts because they are eying up Tiwan. But i have to fact to bring.

@Alouqua Yeah, I don't think it's a given that WW3 is inevitable if we get involved in ridding Ukraine of Russia. Also, I don't think it's a for-sure that China get involved either. China may decide that it political capital they're not willing to spend. They would wave goodbye to the continued growth of their economy in the last 20 years built largely on the backs for the US taxpayer.

@Laterthanthat unfortunately Putin's arsenal of tactical nukes (small low yield warheads that attach to other missiles) is around the 2000 mark. The US while stronger on the high yield nukes (that we really don't want to use) has only about 200 of the tactical nukes. That disparity is very bad. I'm pretty sure NATO can't make up the difference.

@Laterthanthat when Ukraine took back their independence from Russia 30 years ago they were the 3rd largest nuclear power in the world. They gave up those weapons, despite Russia being on their border, based on assurances from Russia, the US and Great Britain that they would not use military force against them and would help them. Then Crimea was taken by military annexation by Russia. The US and Great Britain did nothing. Now Russia has invaded Ukraine and we do?

@Alouqua Agreed. I think NATO is being far too cautious all while innocent people are dying. What good is a defensive alliance that can't defend out of fear of "escalation". Also the excuse that Ukraine is not a member of NATO...falls short to me too. We're going to let paperwork decide who we can and can not defend. It's blindingly obvious what needs to be done here and it's a long time coming.
